There are times when a home-cook and even the most skilled culinary chefs take enormous delight in creating something super simple to make and not just overly complex recipes, that are still equally as delicious.

My Easy Shakshuka is a classic example of a non complicated but tasty dish created in the spur of my morning and by using only immediate ingredients at hand.

So what is Shakshuka anyway? It’s a popular Arabic or Meghrebi dish consisting of poached eggs cooked in a tomato sauce with onions, peppers, garlic and seasoned with a host of spices such as cumin, cayenne, paprika and a possibly a few others.

Shakshuka has been enjoyed in several Middle Eastern countries for several decades now and more recently in America.

Easy Shakshuka Recipe

Deliciously poached eggs snuggled in red marinara sauce and topped with torn basil.

Ingredients

  • 1 15 ounce Primal Kitchen Marinara Sauce or other
  • 4 large Eggs
  • Salt to taste
  • Black Pepper to taste
  • 1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper
  • Fresh Basil torn

Instructions

  1. Heat up and warm sauce in a small skillet.

  2. Place each egg in separate ramekins.

  3. Gently drop each egg over the saucebeing careful to keep them separated in the pan.

  4. Season each egg with a little salt, pepper and cayenne seasonings. Allow the sauce to simmer and eggs to cook on low heat for 3 to 5 minutes.

  5. Top with torn fresh basil and serve.
