Easy Old Fashioned Peach Cobbler Crisp

What’s dinner without desserts?

Well, it’s Sunday again and off into another busy work week we go. However, that’s not the message of this post, as I am simply here to share yet another dessert recipe. See traditionally my family upbringing has been to enjoy some sort of dessert post Sunday dinner. I guess their sweet tooth, including my own, would start to throb like an alarm that’s been set or programed to go off weekly, and especially on Sundays.

So what’s the reason for this sweet addiction?

Well, I believe our sweet addiction or cravings for sugary or even other types of food may largely be a result of what’s found inside of them —you know those ‘hidden, secret, or unknown’ ingredients such as MSG or a derivative of it. However, another common ingredient causing an insatiable urge for more can be found in the form of a well-known and key ingredient known as fructose, which can be found in a wide array of our sweets, fruit juices and other foods.

Anyway, here is a “sweet” and easy dessert recipe, my Easy Old Fashioned Peach Cobbler Crisp, that I whipped up for the family, from just a few staples that I had in my food pantry. And though the items listed here are not all organic (though my own particular preference 😉 ), remember to shop within your own budget, while still insuring that ‘some’ of the ingredients are organic or natural, because your body is most definitely worth the investment!

Some of the ingredients I used in this particular recipe does include fructose.

  • 1 Box of Betty Crocker Yellow Cake Mix or your choice (reserve 1/2 cup for crisp topping)
  • 2 cans Sliced Peaches (reserve 1/2 cup liquid for cake batter)
  • 1 cup Horizon Organic Whole Milk or your choice
  • 2 large Eggs free range, organic
  • 2 tbsp Butter softened or melted
  • 1/2 cup Quaker Oats
  • 1/4 cup Light Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Yellow Cake Mix
  • 6 tbsp Butter cold and cut into pieces

Instructions

  1. Separate 2-1/2 cups of cake mix into a mixing bowl.

  2. Add and blend together using a mixer, the cake mix, peach juice, butter and milk until creamy smooth.
  3. Add two room temperature eggs, one at a time, while continuing to mix.

  4. Pour cake batter into a greased or sprayed, floured 9x12 rectangular pan.

  5. Spread and lay the peach slices on top of cake batter (DO NOT MIX IN).

  6. In another bowl, combine the reserved cake mixture, sugar, and oats.

  7. Add cold cubed butter to the cake mix, sugar and oats. Using a pastry cutter, two forks, or your hands, pinch or work the butter into the ingredients to form coarse crumbs.

  8. Sprinkle on top of the cake and peaches.

  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
