One thing I’ve learned as a chef and foodie is how to purposefully turn leftover foods into a new dish rather than pile them in a grocery bag to be tossed out as scraps and you can too.
This post does not contain a recipe per se, just ideas and simple suggestions to reinvent or repurpose those left over foods as well as show you a recent example from my very own kitchen.
A couple nights ago, we enjoyed a Mediterranean feast and with my Mediterranean hummus being the only leftover—the lone ranger. Well here are a few ideas as to how I could have repurposed or reimagined reusing this hummus the next day.
Well the next day we had pizza and salad—kinda hard to figure how to use hummus, right? The hummus could have been served again as is, or even used on the salad as an additional topping. Also, if I was making my own homemade pizza, the hummus could have served in the place of marinara and topped with Italian sausage or even chicken and then just bring on the toppings and a funky cheese like Gruyère. Although this was a frozen pizza, I could have still dolloped it with the hummus before baking.
Anyway, here is how I finally repurposed and reused the hummus—you guessed it in a breakfast bowl but also in a sandwich (see photos below).
This was a delicious combo at both meals just so you know. See by finding and using items and ingredients in your kitchen pantry to pair alongside of the leftover food, you may be able to your own surprise, enjoy the flavorful combination of what may prove to be a new and exciting dish and possibly one for the family recipe book. 🙂
