Spicy Bacon Wrapped Asparagus

Jump to Recipe

I pride myself in eating healthy for well over a decade now, and for all of my bacon lovers out there, that includes this delicious piece of pork too. So, when I do shop for bacon, it is important for me to purchase nitrite and nitrate free bacon by brands such as Apple Gate from my local organic market. Otherwise, if purchased at the local grocery store, I generally prefer to buy the center cut of bacon as it is meatier and contains a lot less fat—though keep in mind that not all fats are bad for you. You just have to do your homework, because including healthy fats in your diet can help to promote weight loss and heart health. However, that is not what I’m here to discuss, but maybe on another post. This is simply my usual recipe share.

This is an absolutely delicious and creative way to enjoy bacon and keep your healthy going on your home menu of a favorite meat as well as a go-to veggie. So, because I enjoy asparagus and of course bacon too and at any time of the day—though both are somewhat expensive—therefore, they are enjoyed on rare occasions. Anyway, this was just such an occasion the other dinner night with this side treat, these Spicy Bacon Wrapped Asparagus which is ready after about 20 minutes. Enjoy them with any meat or other main course food, or simply just enjoy them by themselves and cut down on any extra calories.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound Asparagus Tough ends removed.
  • 8 Bacon strips Leave whole.
  • 1 tsp Creole seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp Cayenne Pepper
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to Broil at 450 degrees.

  2. Season the asparagus with Creole Seasoning, cayenne pepper, salt and black pepper.

  3. Wrap 4 stalks of thin asparagus (tough ends removed) with the entire bacon strip in a spiral fashion, moving down towards the ends. Note: If asparagus is thick, wrap only 2 stalks with bacon.

  4. Place and line on a nonstick baking pan or cookie sheet if available. Otherwise, spray your baking sheet to avoid the bacon sticking to it.

  5. Drizzle with oil and broil in oven for at least 20 minutes. Optional: Tent the asparagus tips only for the first 10 minutes, to avoid burning or overcooking. Carefully remove the cut foiled pieces and continue cooking the remaining 10 minutes. Then enjoy!
