Go Apes over These Monkey Bread Donut Holes With Pecan and Honey

Jump to Recipe

Who doesn’t love sticky, ooey gooey pull-apart foods like that of the brown sugar and cinnamon treat referred to as “monkey bread?”

Please don’t dare ask me how this particular food got its very peculiar name—-as to be perfectly honest I’m simply clueless and I’m not sure there is a discoverable answer out there.

Furthermore, I doubt if anyone really cares or gives it much thought as they indulge in devouring these sweet round pull-apart sticky treats. However, here is what I do know.

Monkey bread gets its name from how it’s eaten—as a pull-apart treat by hands and subsequently devoured by mouth. Monkey bread are pieces of dough that is rolled into round balls and coated with brown sugar, cinnamon and melted butter. They are then baked and ready to pinch off or pull part and toss in the mouth as your hands are the only utensils here.

My recipe is referred to here as Monkey Bread Donut Holes because of its cake-like texture similar to that of several types of cakes donuts or donut holes, and not like that of a plain glazed donut. Either way, they are delicious. However, you can also take a shortcut and use pastry or biscuit dough to roll them up and then proceed to toss them in the sugar cinnamon combo and bake. However, I made my own and this easy recipe is listed below.
