This recipe is a twist off the corn dog with a frankfurter, wiener or better yet the infamous hot dog (as it is often referred) inside of a sweet fried cornmeal batter. What is it? Well I simply refer to it as pretty much the same- and that is my Corn Burger Dog.
So here is just a bit more about the corn burger dog, though the recipe will detail it more with simple instructions on how it all comes together.
The corn burger dog is seasoned ground beef rolled up in the size of a long thin hot dog. The beef, however for this recipe purpose, has been prepared and rolled to serve as minis.
Much like the traditional corn dog, these cooked mini corn dog burgers are also dipped into a cornmeal batter (i .e. that should be refrigerated to stiffen for adhering to burgers) and can be either pan fried, air fried or even baked as a healthier cooking alternative to oil pan frying. However, there are a few more steps involved in making this tasty burger recipe. So, see below for more.
Corn Burger Dogs
A twist on the popular corn dog recipe where cooked hamburger in the shape of hotdogs are used instead, and are likewise dipped into a sweet corn batter and either pan fried, air-fried or baked.
Ingredients
For the meat
- 1 pound Ground Beef grass fed
- Salt
- Black Pepper
- 2 tbsp Olive or Grape-seed Oil or other
For the batter
- 2 cups Almond Flour
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 1/4 cup Maple Syrup or sugar if preferred
- 4 tbsp Butter, melted and cooled
- 2 large Eggs
- 1 cup Almond Milk, unsweetened
- 1 tsp Sweet Corn Extract, optional Note: However, it will give it that sweet corn taste. So I highly recommend it.
Instructions
-
Add olive oil to medium to large skillet.
-
In a bowl, season ground beef with salt and pepper and any other spices and seasonings of your choice.
-
Roll up ground beef into mini hot dog sizes, about 3-4 inches.
-
Add beef dogs to the oil and brown on all sides till mostly done. Drain on paper towels, then insert skewers that have been soaked in water and completely dried into each beef dog.
-
Meanwhile, make the batter.
-
In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt with the maple syrup.
-
Next, add and mix in the cooled melted butter, eggs, followed by the extract (if using) and the milk a little at a time, stirring continuously until the batter is somewhat smooth.
-
Pour the batter into a large mason jar for dipping the cooked beef dog. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to insure batter will adhere to the burger.
-
Refrigerate or freeze the beef dogs for 30 minutes to 1 hour to allow the batter to set.
-
Air fry, pan fry or bake until the outside is browned and done, approximately 10 minutes. However, cooking or baking times may vary depending on which cooking technique is used as well as your oven.
