Make This Old Fashioned Milk Cake, It’s Delicious and Lower in Calories

Jump to Recipe

This is a moist, tender and lightly sweetened old fashioned milk cake which dates back to the early 1900’s.

Back then they did not have the litany of ingredients which are now available today. So the recipe is simple and with only a few basic staple cake ingredients—eggs, butter, flour, vanilla, a leaven such as baking powder and of course in this instance, MILK.

How this milk cake differs from most is in the unique way that it comes together. In this case, the butter is not creamed with the sugar but is rather heated with whole milk (or your choice), and then added to the whipped egg and flour combination before baking.

My recipe here has been slightly adapted, as I chose to combine both oat and cake flour to reduce some of the calories from that of white processed flour, so the texture of the cake is slightly denser but still equally as delicious.

Also, my recipe does not use white refined sugar but rather a low calorie sweetener. Therefore, these two adaptations make for a much better alternative for those watching their weight and on low calorie or carbohydrate diets.
